Recipe: Cooked Dressing From: anonymous

1 C. apple cider vinegar
1 C. sugar
1 stick margarine or butter
1 large egg beaten
2 heaping T. flour
evaporated milk (not sweetened condensed milk)
mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
mustard
salt and pepper to taste

Place vinegar, sugar and butter in large bowl. Cook on full power in microwave until butter has melted and mixture is boiling. Place flour and eggs in bowl and add enough evaporated milk to make it a thin batter consistency. Whisk this into the vinegar mixture and return to microwave oven. Cook until it is thick and bubbly and no longer has a raw flour taste. Remove from oven and allow to cool. When dressing is cool add mayonnaise and mustard, salt and pepper to taste.

NOTE: This is a very old recipe from my great-grandmother. The measurements are only estimates and can be adjusted to suit personal tastes. It keeps extremely well in the refrigerator. My family uses it on potato salad but it works equally well on macaroni salad.
